Some studies show that ALS patients have slightly lower levels of vitamin D compared to healthy controls. This does not mean that vitamin D deficiency causes ALS or that ALS causes vitamin D deficiency or that vitamin D deficiency causes ALS symptoms to worsen. There is no evidence to support a causal relationship between the two.
The neuromuscular physicians at Synapticure will often test vitamin D levels and offer supplementation, if it is indicated, to help prevent other medical complications that may result from this vitamin deficiency. The team at Synapticure is also able to provide personalized care plans based on individual needs, and can support you in a number of ways – such as virtual neurologist visits, genetic testing, insurance navigation, care coordination and mental health support.
